Chapter 1
A plant.
Mr. Plant’s root, stem, leaves, flowers and fruits were all one big happy family. They had always helped each other out, but recently, the root had started to feel ignored by the others. The others had been busy enjoying the sunlight and breathing fresh air above the ground, while the root was buried underground, trying to find water and nutrients for the rest of the plant.
Chapter 2
Root is Angry.
The root tried to talk to the others about this, but it was very difficult. The leaves, who were working as chefs in Mr. Plant’s kitchen, were busy cooking food for the new flowers. The flowers were in the middle of their preparations to become fleshy fruits. The stem, too, was very tired as it had to spend all day taking water and nutrients from the root to the other parts, and then carrying back food from the leaves. This made the root very angry.
Chapter 3
A lesson.
The root decided to teach them all a lesson by refusing to perform its only job – fetching water and nutrients. So, without any warning, it blocked the supply of all nutrients and water. Soon, leaves started to wilt and flowers started to fall off Mr. Plant.
Chapter 4
A Lesson learnt.
They were all shocked at the root’s behavior. The stem was trying its best to convince the root to cooperate, but the root wanted all of the other parts of the plant to make an effort to please it too. The stem took the root’s message to the rest of the plant. The remaining leaves, flowers and fruits were helpless. They told the root how valuable it was for them. They praised the root for selflessly sacrificing so much by staying underground for all of its life to help them live happily above the ground.
Chapter 5
A Happy End.
The root was happy that the rest of the plant now appreciated it for all its work. It decided to go back to performing its job so they could once again live together happily as a family.
